Placing images on the blogroll

…..
How to add in images into the blogroll to act as links to the websites they represent.

…..

Click on the button to download a pdf of this page.

First, a glossary (important = read it to understand this e-course fully):

Blog = an online diary that can be adapted for business purposes.

Link = an interactive method of getting to another website or blog.

Widget = blogging programme for the sidebar

Blogroll = a widget that lists links to recommended websites and blogs

This e-course continues on from the e-course Editing the blogroll or links. Let us assume you have completed your blogroll with the links you require and it is already in place on your sidebar.

First, go to the Dashboard (refer to ‘How to access a blog’) and click on ‘Links’ in the left sidebar:

Select the link you want to place the image with, mouse over the title and the ‘Edit’ option will appear:

This page should be familiar with you, from when you have just created your blogroll links.

Look at the bottom and you will find a field to place the image address you want to use.

Now you have to create the image of the website you want to represent, making sure it fits within the width of your sidebar, and save it on your computer.

Then you have to upload it into the Media Library. Go back to the Dashboard and select Media > Add New:

Click on ‘Select Files’ and choose your desired image from your computer:

Then save the image in the Media Library:

There at the bottom you will see the image’s URL which you need to copy and keep.

Don’t forget to save all changes:

Now your image is kept safe and you can click on it to access its URL again.

Now go back to the Dashboard, select Links > Edit and pan down the page to find the image’s URL field:

Paste in the image’s URL and save the changes by clicking on ‘Update Link’ at the top right of the page:

Visit the site through the link ‘Visit Site’ next to the blog’s name, and view your image in the blogroll on the sidebar:

Now do the same for all the other links if you have images for them.
